Peterman's productivity method for estimating dynamic reference points in changing ecosystems

چکیده
Abstract Target and limit reference points are fundamental management components used to define sustainable harvest strategies. Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) the precautionary principle underpin many points. Non-proxy based on MSY in age-based single-species assessments depend stock–recruitment (SR) relationship, which can display complex variability. Current ignore persistent dynamic change by assuming that SR relationship is stationary with constant recruitment parameters over selected time periods. We highlight Peterman's productivity method (PPM), capable of tracking temporal dynamics via time-varying parameters. show how variability affects fishing mortality biomass MSY-based Implementation PPM allows for integrated ecosystem influences tactical while avoiding overwrought sometimes ephemeral mechanistic hypotheses tested small variable datasets. While some these arguments have been made individual papers, our opinion has not yet garnered attention due it.

Estimating Aboveground Net Primary Productivity in Forest-Dominated Ecosystems
T he measurement of net primary productivity (NPP) in forest ecosystems presents a variety of challenges because of the large and complex dimensions of trees and the difficulties of quantifying several components of NPP. As summarized by Clark et al. (2001a), these methodological challenges can be overcome, and more reliable spatial and temporal comparisons can be provided, only if greater conc...
متن کاملDynamic Consistency and Reference Points
This note provides a positive answer to the following question. Is it possible to define a set of preference relations, one for each node of a decision tree, such that these preferences satisfy the reduction of compound lotteries axiom and dynamic consistency, and yet do not converge to expected utility? It is argued that updated preferences necessarily have one affine indifference curve but th...
متن کاملEstimating cut points: A simple method for new wearables.
UNLABELLED Wearable technology is readily available for continuous assessment due to a growing number of commercial devices with increased data capture capabilities. However, many commercial devices fail to support suitable parameters (cut points) derived from the literature to help quantify physical activity (PA) due to differences in manufacturing. A simple metric to estimate cut points for n...
متن کاملMatrix Method for Lcmm — Connection between Subspaces of Reference Points
The article describes the transplantation of Matrix Method as an assessment of accuracy of coordinate measurement for Large CMM. The method of the synthetic description of the accuracy is used successfully for small and medium-sized CMMs. It is implemented for large measurements as research project nr: PB 5T07/D03824. The issue involves many problems, especially from a technical point of view. ...
متن کاملSliding Pairs -a Method for Finding Reference Points on Curves
The aim is to provide invariant signatures for matching space curves under Euclidean motions. Semi-diierential rather than diierential invariants can be used for the description and recognition of space curves. They have the advantage of being more robust, but on the other hand introduce the problem of nding good reference points. In order to avoid a search for such points, an alternative schem...
